SALT X COMMUNITY

a year in the making, SALT X COMMUNITY strives to lessen our environmental impacts, strengthen connections, and positively contribute to our community by collecting, reclaiming, and mindfully repurposing discarded excess fabrics and clothing items. the initiative was developed to ensure sustainability and community were solidified as core elements of SALT's business model.

SALT X COMMUNITY consists of two primary elements:

the first component is THE COMMUNITY COLLECTION. this clothing collection is made using imperfect clothing items and leftover excess fabrics to create one-of-a-kind designs. our first community collection was released in march 2021 and consisted of fifteen repurposed pieces available through a charitable auction hosted on our website, theshopsalt.com. a portion of sales from this auction was funnelled directly back to the community, with 25% of base profits as well as 100% of additional bid value donated to the Newfoundland & Labrador Sexual Assault Crisis and Prevention Centre. our second community collection was released in the spring of 2022 in partnership with Dragonfly Moons - Empowering Indigenous Women through Stronger Communities. our third community collection release is scheduled for late winter/early spring 2023.

the second component, THE SIFT PROGRAM, is our way to ensure our products are up-cycled and recirculated to prevent excess wastage. we ask our customers to return any gently used SALT items that are no longer serving them by donation or for a SALT store credit. all SIFT items are tagged to be repurposed through our COMMUNITY COLLECTION or resold online or in store at THE SIFT SHOP a SALT thrift outlet available on theshopsalt.com and launching to the public in the fall of 2021. as with the COMMUNITY COLLECTION, 50% of profits will be donated to local charities. we’ve been collecting used SALT items from our customers since winter 2021. in 2022, our donations will be in support of Dragonfly Moons - Empowering Indigenous Women Through Stronger Communities.

do you have SALT clothing that is no longer serving you? here's how you participate in THE SIFT PROGRAM.
